Beyond the Spark: Kindred Curse Saga

At the heart of this series lies the “Forging,” an old magical pact that fractured a continent to save a dying race. When a Blood Sun omen heralds the return of ancient wars, the world of Emarion stands on the precipice of a revolution that only “Forgotten Daughter” can ignite.

Spark of the Everflame, Chapter 8 “According to the old mortal religion, all life began as the sparks from the Everflame that fell to the earth as glowing seeds. At death, those found worthy be the Old Gods would be placed among its burning branches, where their earthly bodies would turn to ash but their souls would remain forever warmed by the Undying Fire.”

Lumnos (The Blue Realm): Ruled by King Luther Corbois, this domain of Light and Shadow is the first crown claimed by Diem.

Sophos (The Rose Realm):  Realm of Thought and Spark is ruled by King Doriel and stands as a hyper-advanced sanctuary of intellect and innovation.

Fortos (The Red Realm):  Realm of Force and Valor is ruled by its warrior king and splits its magic between male-driven physical decay and female-driven healing.

Umbros (The Black Realm): Realm of Spies and  Secrets is overseen by Queen Yrselle and run by the elite shadow-weaving Centenary mind-readers.

Faunos (The Yellow Realm): Realm of Beasts and Animals is ruled by Queen Ailani, who possesses the gentle ability to speak directly with creatures. Mortals are strictly forbidden to step off the protective Ring Road.

Arboros (The Green Realm): This territory of Vegetation and Medicine is ruled by the compassionate Queen Mireille and serves as a vital supplier of restricted medicinal herbs. Its deep forests hosted the birth of the earliest alliances with the mortal rebel Guardians.

Montios (The Violet Realm): Realm of Stone and Ice is ruled by the frail King Renmai and governed by an elected council.

Ignios (The Orange Realm): A harsh land of sand, flame, and certain death, the orange-hued Realm of Ignios is ruled by the leathery, dark-bearded King Hamsid.  Its borders are protected by a magical barrier that burns any crossing mortal alive.

Meros (The Aqua Realm): Realm of Sea and Sky is a welcoming port of trade ruled by King Obaneryn. Its domain is famous for wind magic and its mystical heart-compasses.

Omnos (The White Realm): The lost and forbidden tenth realm belongs to the trapped tenth Kindred, Ophiucae (Diem’s biological father). Erased from every map after the Blood War, its ancient magic is what calls to Diem’s soul.

During the Ascension Ball, the visiting Emarion dignitaries presented Diem with unique offerings that reflected the distinct magic and culture of their realms.
  • Faunos: The beast-sympathizing Queen of Faunos gifted a selection of live, fluffy round animals to serve as exotic food for Diem’s newly bound gryvern, Sorae.
  • Sophos: The Rose Realm presented an Orb of Answering, alongside an enrollment acceptance for Diem’s brother, Teller.
  • Fortos: Fortos gifted a lethal, beautifully crafted steel blade.
  • Ignios: The leathery ruler of the burning desert sands provided a beautifully woven spider silk scarf.
  • Arboros: The Green Realm gifted an emerald potion, capable to heal almost any physical affliction, short of a curse sent directly by the gods themselves.
  • Meros: The coastal aqua sailors presented a magical heart compass that is specifically spelled to spin and point toward the holder’s deepest heart’s desire.
  • Montios: The reclusive realm of the mountains provided a heavy, fur-lined cloak. This warm, protective garment is designed to shield its wearer from the freezing cold of the violet realm.
  • Umbros: Operating under the guise of an old crone, the Queen delivered a cryptic prophecy regarding Diem’s true sire and the breaking of ancient chains. This foreboding mental gift laid bare the secret key to Diem’s bloodline.

Lore Deep-Dive: Gryverns

Original cover concepts and world names based on the Kindred Curse Saga by Penn Cole. Illustrated reference diagram created for Romantasy Wiki explanatory purposes.
Perched high above the winding balustrades of the palace, a majestic gryvern stands as a formidable sentinel wrapped in swirling currents of ancient magic. This powerful beast represents the fierce bond between Emarion rulers and the legendary creatures that guard their crowns.

Part dragon, eagle, and lion, these formidable beasts are magically bound to protect the Crowns of their respective realms.

Arilloc (Meros): Distinguished by his breathtaking blue-and-aqua plumage, Arilloc serves as the mystical trade guardian over the ports and merchant ships of Meros.

Baldrum (Fortos): Bound to the Red Realm, Baldrum is a powerful, muscularly built beast that perfectly reflects the physical force and combat-focused nature of the realm of Force and Valor.

Cyranei (Umbros): This elegant female gryvern features a dark caramel coat paired with piercing intelligent amber eyes. Operating in the shadows, she watches over the lawless, secret-filled territory of the Centenary.

Onaar (Arboros): Linked to the Green Realm, Onaar is a majestic guardian with plumage resembling the lush greens of the mossy forest.

Rosha (Faunos): Rosha is a wild, untamed predator whose striking yellow accents match the untamed energy of the realm of Beasts and Animals.

Rymari (Montios): The gryvern who was tragically killed during the ancient Blood War. The lavender-colored dragonfyre was eventually bottled and sold illegally on the Umbros black markets.

Sorae (Lumnos): This striking black-and-gold female gryvern is the devoted mate of Tybold.

Tybold (Ignios): A fearsome gold-and-tan brute, Tybold is known across the continent for his fierce temper and his protective bond with his mate, Sorae.

Vexes (Sophos): During Ophiucae’s sudden invasion, the Crown Doriel deployed Vexes on a vital defensive mission to help lure the attackers away from the city.

Xipherus (Omnos): This pitch-black beast with striking red-tipped wings is bound directly to Ophiucae, the trapped tenth Kindred.
