With the release of the interactive Dragonkind game alongside the actual book Threshing Day, our community has been handed a treasure trove of easter eggs. By analyzing the decisions built into the Dragonkind game, we can unlock secret rules that may influence the 13 rider POV chapters in Threshing Day.

Part 1: The 4 In-Game Choice Steps & Mechanics

In-Game Decision Workflow:
  • Zone 1: Alone vs. Squadmates – Triggers Color Den Tests (Brown, Red, Green, Orange)
  • Zone 2: Bully Scenario – Triggers third bonus options later in the game (Blue Dragon)
  • Zone 3: Blood Catalyst –  Mandatory to Spill Blood
  • Zone 4: Meadow vs. Trees – Climate Environments Determine Dragon Bonding

Zone 1 — Going Alone vs. Squadmates

Squadmates: Entering Zone 1 presents the choice to go solo or remain within a group of squadmates. Choosing to go with squadmates increases the amount of dragon tests you will encounter (making the game longer).

East, West, Center: This selection determines which color of dragon you will encounter (Brown, Red, Green, Orange).

Zone 2 — The Bully Scenario

The Morality Test: In Zone 2, cadets encounter moral conflict: You hear a scream and must decide to confront/execute ruthless bullies versus keep walking.  If you choose to avoid the conflict, then you will still need to help a struggling cadet.  However, if you intervene in the bully scenario, then your decisions may trigger a third bonus scenario in zone 4.

Please note: The bonus trigger is still completely random and requires a bit of luck.  It does not guarantee a bonus trigger, even if you make the ‘correct’ decisions in this step.

Zone 3 — The Mandatory Blood

Bonding Prerequisite: In Zone 3, Cadets must cut themselves on a bush and spill blood directly in the Valley.

Zone 4 — Terrain Choice: Tree vs. Meadow

Simulated Climates: Zone 4 splits cadets between an open meadow and the high forest tree canopy. We know the dragons engineered the valley as an artificial microcosm of Navarre’s provinces by transplanting native tree species to recreate the exact climates of their ancestral hatching grounds:

  • Open Meadow: In the game, this leads to either bond a brown or orange dragon, because I theorize it is their preferred climates listed below.

Northwest Coast (Brown Dragons/ theorized to be Luceras): Dense forest where coniferous pines clash directly with towering coastal Redwoods. It features blinding snowstorms, maritime fog, and massive boulder formations to allow for camouflage.

Central Floor (Orange Dragons/ Esben Valley): Open, sunlit meadows dominated by deciduous, broadleaf trees (such as Oaks) and tranquil streams to separate from surrounding territories.

  • Climb the Tree: In the game, this leads to either bond a red or green dragon, because I theorize it is their preferred climates listed below.

High Altitude (Red Dragons / Dunness Cliffs): A barren cliffside dominated by Polylepis trees (the highest-growing tree species in the world).

Mountain Trenches (Green Dragons/ Steelridge Mountains): High-altitude, rocky mountain valley floors covered in dense coniferous pines.

  • The Blue Bonus Trigger: There is a third button that is randomly added to both the Meadow (approach a blue) and Tree (shadow) scenarios.  In the game, this leads to a blue dragon, because I theorize they are hiding in their preferred climate listed below.

Deep Canyons (Blue Dragons/ Corydon): Dominating canyon floors blanketed in ancient Redwoods. Their massive, interlocking upper canopies choke out sunlight, plunging the floor into permanent shadow. Blue dragons (who hate the cold) are insulated by the humid canyon.

Part 2: Mapping the Zones Directly to the 13 Threshing Day Rider POVs

Zone 1 — Going Alone vs. Squadmates

Solo (includes character interactions, even if they decided to go alone): Brennan Sorrengail (with Flynn Ennis), Dain Aetos (with Joelle Tadita), Bodhi Durran (with Xaden Riorson), Rhiannon Matthias (with Visia, Eya), Ridoc Gamlin (entirely alone), Liam Mairi (with Xaden Riorson), Sloane Mairi (with Aaric Graycastle, Imogen Cardulo), Aaric Graycastle (with Sloane Mairi).
